"I am concerned about my child and I do not know what to do". |
|
This is the sentiment I hear most often from the families of new clients. If you are here, you are probably worried about your youth’s emotional or mental well-being, but I want to tell you that you are not alone.
I work with youth and families, like yours, to transform “behavioural problems”, disempowerment and isolation into regulation, engagement and empowerment! As a coach, My work is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and tailored to each youth's unique needs. I provide personalized support to ensure that youth are understood exactly as they are. Unlike therapy, counselling or doctors, I don't tell youth what they need. Instead, I help youth discover their needs and collaborate with them to create and implement creative, personalized, solutions. This ensures that the solutions are always the perfect fit and provide youth with the skills and tools to develop and maintain a healthy, happy life. I can't wait to meet you! - Mallory Woods |

My Credentials |
|
I want to be clear, I have no letters behind my name. I am not a doctor, a psychologist, or a behaviour specialist and I am glad I am not. Many youths I work with have tried those avenues before, they have spoken to lists of therapists, done dozens of consultations, and are, frankly, tired of “traditional” approaches.
So no, I do not have a Ph.D. Instead, I have years of extensive training in trauma and violence informed care, adolescent mental illness and emotional well-being, and recovery from depression, PTSD and physical illness. I have dedicated years to learning about coping with grief, bullying, self-harm, homelessness, loss of purpose, low-confidence, anxiety and the other heart-breaking experiences youth go through. In addition, I am greatly informed by my life experience of living through child maltreatment, isolation, mental illness and, eventually, healing and recovery. Learning to create and live a life that is happier and more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined as a child has been my life’s work and the slow process of turning my hardship into medicine has always been my goal. I combine my life experience, my formal and informal education and my coaching training with Foundational Co-Active Life Coach Ross Taylor, to create a hybrid approach for supporting youth which takes the best from “traditional” modalities and combines it with cutting-edge technique. The result is a coaching process rooted in connection and collaboration which operates within a Co-active Coaching framework and is informed by the needs of each specific youth. |

The Origin Story of
Mallory Woods Youth Coaching:
Throughout my adolescence, I watched my peers and I struggle to connect with supports we couldn't relate to and who, it felt like, couldn't relate to us. This is why connection, trust, and collaboration is at the heart of everything I do. I work to ensure that each youth I work with feels seen, heard, and understood exactly as they are. My favourite days in my practices are when a youth, who feel perpetually misunderstood, realize I have lived through a comparable situation. Suddenly they have found an ally along a previously solo journey. Those are the moments that make the hardships of my early life worth it and it is those, tiny, numerous moments of connection that make me so passionate about working with youth. |
