Understanding Gender: An Introductory Workshop is the product of over four years of university-level Gender Studies and years of personal experience summarized into a concise and understandable workshop. Facilitated by youth coach and sexual educator Mallory Woods, Understanding Gender is designed to meet participants along their gender education journey and support them in finding new and expanded understandings of sex, biology, gender expression, sexuality, and bodies.
Understanding Gender: An Introductory Workshop engages with the following themes and topics in a trauma-informed manner:

● Sex: As biological and constructed.
● Gender expression.
● Sexuality.

● Pronouns and “preferred” pronouns.

● Binary opposition and how it is shifting.
● Global and historic expressions of gender.

● Shifting our understanding.
About the Facilitator
Mallory Woods is a non-binary, youth empowerment and youth identity coach whose work focuses on the junction of empowerment and inclusive education. Mallory has been working with youth and their community as an educator, public speaker and coach since 2017 and is the student representative for Studies in Woman and Gender at Vancouver Island University and the Youth Futures Education Fund. Mallory Woods is dedicated to creating inclusive, informative and non-judgmental virtual spaces and the creation of trauma and violence informed, and supportive content is at the forefront of all of their work. Mallory uses they/them pronouns.
